“Ace Up My Sleeve” – Fall 2019
Color adjustments to amp-up the complimentary color contrast to increase the image impact.
Finished rendering, trying for a quadratic color scheme with red/green as the main and yellow/violet for the secondary, but they turned out muddied.
Image collage as a mockup before finalizing.

I wanted to embody the Neon Noir aesthetic based on the lighting from God Only Forgives. The image went through a development process in trying to figure out noir lighting using blinds, but not having it distract from the focal points.
initial sketch
blocking out lighting test 1
blocking out lighting test 2
blocking out lighting test 3
blocking out lighting test 4—the one I went with
ended up balancing the backlight by adding blue atmosphere
alternate inverted lighting, but calmed the image too much
testing inverted lighting—gives highlight too much emphasis and creates an unbalanced image (not to mention uncanny valley)
final image I ended with, dimming the rim light to keep it from taking away form the focal point.
“Need of One’s Self” – Fall 2018

Experimenting with Surrealism, I drew one of my characters, Aster, as a broken doll with insects spilling out. Surrealist subjects are often objectified, suffering women, a reflection of post-WWII, and is an almost dream-like setting with an off-putting level of detail within renderings.
