Non-Representational Story

Out of all of my design projects, this one turned out to be one of my favorites and deserved its own post to explain.

The challenge was to make a non-representational story in a linear format. Why not embody abstract thoughts and emotions in abstract art? So I kept my idea plain and simple with each panel having only a few key traits:

  • intro, establishing shot, isolation, aloofness, organization
  • rising action, anxiety, stumbling, falling
  • climax, explosion, fear, lashing out
  • conclusion, peace, airiness

I had iterated many times and struggled to pin down those emotions and convey them to the reader clearly and understandably. With this, I also focused on color theory (something I have been struggling with previously), and composition in leading the eye fluidly through the panels with visual cues. Overall I’m proud on how these turned out, fitting together as one piece.

Fall 2017 Drawing

First time I used vine and I really loved the malleability of it, so continued to use it through the semester.

For the self-portrait my professor accidentally planned it for Halloween and while he said to take the costume off, I wanted to depict myself for who I am, giant cowboy sombrero and all.
